Papa Grande

It was the end of a long day for me.  I had watched MSU lose in over-time to Iowa and Michigan defeat Illinois 45-0.  I had made 16 pasties and since it had been a while between pasty events, I had  to spend time and energy finding all of the hardware that is used in the production of these culinary masterpieces.

All that completed I decided to watch the remainder of the first playoff game in the ALCS between the Tigers and Yanks.  The game was tied 0-0 in the fifth when I tuned in.  Soon Detroit scored two runs and all was well.  I wanted a couple of insurance runs and my wish came true.  A 4-0 lead going into the ninth.  Detroit brought in their closer, Jose Valverde, aka Papa Grande.  The closer's job is to retire the side of the opponent thus preserving the winning margin.

The last time Papa Grande had been called on was about a week ago vs the Oakland A's.  He had failed to hold the lead in that game and allowed them to win.  Something was off.  Usually his pitches are overpowering.  Now, with a four run lead, he was called upon to be the closer.

The announcers on the televised game were Yankee fans.  One of them noted that Valverde's first fast ball was only 90 mph as opposed to his usual 94 first offering.  He later threw a pitch that was spinning, but not breaking sharply.  That indicates a lack of speed.  It was hit for a single.  Shortly after, a Japanese slap-shot artist, hit a home run.  Tiger fans held their collective breaths.  Another runner reached first and another home run.  There goes the lead.  The Tigers ended up winning the game in the 12th inning, 6-4.  I wasn't watching.

Checking social media, fans want Valverde dead.  I agree that he probably should not be put out there to preserve a victory at this point.  He, more than likely, is suffering some temporary "condition" that is affecting his performance.  It may be low testosterone,  a mild illness or lowered mental confidence.

If the Tigers have a mind coach (hypnotist) available, put him to work.  Papa Grande will be effective again, even for today's game!  Then he can do his victory dance which enrages the opposing fans.

Thought I'd share a recent experience with hypnosis.   One of the problems with hypnosis is that so many new hypnotists want to say they have come up with a new discovery or method.  They name it and sell it and even tell other hypnotists to take their classes on it and use it.  I've referenced this in other blogs.  For me, I just want to use pure hypnosis.  Yes, we are encouraged to experiment and we can range broadly in our language and  imagery, but the method is very basic and time tested.

First you MUST gain the trust of the subject.  Second you lead them through an induction.  The induction can vary greatly.  It is part of the hypnotist's skill to decide which induction to use with a particular subject.  Once induced, the subject should be tested to determine the depth of trance.  There are physical signs that the hypnotist looks for that can tell how deep the subject is.  When the subject is in a nice deep state,  you can proceed.

The two paths are 1: Direct Suggestion, or 2: Regression to Cause.  1 is used for quitting smoking, weight loss(minor), confidence etc.
2 is used for phobias, serious weight loss, addiction etc.  How you proceed on these courses is well known and with experience becomes very routine.  The words used and order of use are important.

Recently I was feeling pretty low and decided to read one of the hypnosis scripts I had gotten from my course of study at Omni Hypnosis.  These scripts are well written, well thought out "pieces of literature".  They are used for direct suggestion.  The script I read to myself, being both hypnotist and subject, was on self-confidence.  There are many points raised in this script.  It gives a logical argument as to how one can label themselves incorrectly.  You may have labeled yourself as bullheaded, stupid, inadequate, unhappy etc.  The point is, If you look at yourself and have these labels, you tend to believe them and therefore ACT in that way.  You must remember they are just labels.

How they got there is another matter.  The thing to do is Tear off those labels.  In your imagination rip off those negative labels and replace them with some positive labels.  You might put on LOVING, GENEROUS, HAPPY, CHARMING.  Even if you don't really believe it right now.  Once you put the labels there you start acting that way.

Try it, what can it hurt?  That's how I got to be confident, caring and energetic.

Check your labels regularly-even daily at first.

My very best good wishes to you...see, I'm a caring guy!

Dear Reader

I assume it's you.  Thanks for checking in.  I just got back from the tennis court at the Community Center.
I really need to find a practice partner here that I can call and hit with for about 30-45 minutes.  I used the ball machine today and it was fun.  A mother of three showed up with her kids and they wanted to help pick up balls.  I let them of course and it was a good time for them.  The mother told me her mother had played tennis until she was 80.

I hadn't hit in about a month but it really doesn't matter.  I was happy I could get some of them back over the net.  I had the machine set on too high a speed.  It would really take quite a bit of practice for me to get my timing and all back into balance.  I'm sure it could be done at some level of ability.

One nice thing about tennis is the fact that it requires your concentration to follow the ball, move to a place where you can hit it and make your stroke.  It keeps your focus so you aren't thinking about other things.  The exercise is a bonus.

Well I'm not going to try to relate this to hypnosis, so ta ta for now.

Habits

One of the biggest areas of work for a hypnotist is changing habits.  So, when Amazon suggested a book titled The Power of Habit, I wanted to see what it was all about.  I was able to check it out from the local library.
I was most interested in the relationship of habits to the brain.  There was a lot of information in the book about studies that had been conducted with a couple of men who had lost their ability to store information in their long term memory.  One by way of surgery and one by way of a viral disease.  The part of the brain lost was the same in both cases.  The recent patient was able to form new habits even without memory.  The location of the habits is in the structure called the basal ganglia.  I believe ganglia roughly translated means knot.
The gentleman in the study couldn't tell you where the kitchen in his house was if the two of you were sitting in the living room.  When asked what he would do if hungry, he could show you how he would go to the kitchen, get a jar of nuts from the cabinet and eat them.  He learned how to go for a walk around the block even though he couldn't tell you which house was his or make a sketch of the block.

Habits form because a certain pattern of behavior leads to a "reward".  The whole cycle is driven by a craving.  An example from the book is, ONE has a craving for endorphin rush or accomplishment...ONE sees his running shoes lying on the floor(this is a Cue)...ONE gears up and goes for a run(this is the Routine) .....ONE gets the rush or feeling of accomplishment(the Reward).

Some say over 90% of our behavior is habit.

The book goes on to apply habits to organizations.  Also, how companies such as Target and Amazon use information collected about you to predict your behavior based on habits.  Many other subjects are discussed and related in this book.  It would be good to read for almost anyone.  One of the things to take away from this book is the idea of the keystone habit.  This is one which if you can change it,  it will lead you to change many other habits in your life.

Looks like I'm going to be one busy Hypnotist!

Two Birds With One Stone

Here I am again.  I just read an entry at the restricted Omni Hypnosis forum from my teacher Gerry Kein.
He recently announced that he will no longer be regularly scheduling his beginner through advanced hypnosis class after April of this year.  Many Omnigrads have been concerned over his health and he answered these concerns and told of his plans for the future.  He is quite an inspiring man.  I told him, when I was in his September of 2009 class, that someone should make a movie of his life.  He said,"No one would believe it."

He was a close friend/protege of the famous Hypnotist Dave Elman. Jerry was a pilot in the Navy.  He was a stage hypnotist in his youth.  He had a very successful hypnosis business in Fort Lauderdale. That just scratches the surface. He is a wonderful speaker with great conviction and energy. When we attended classes there in Deland, FL., we all felt tremendously energized and positive about the future.  What else could you ask for from a teacher?

Jerry developed a new method of Hypnosis which he termed, "Ultra Height."  I spoke of this in an earlier blog on "The Hometownhypnotist".  In Ultraheight the person who is seeking a solution to some problem is first taken to a very deep state of hypnosis called the coma state.  Not the medical coma.  In the coma state you would be so relaxed as to be nearly uncommunicative.  You would have a natural anesthesia and the hypnotist can put your limbs in positions which you would hold like a jointed doll.  Then, leaving your body in this state, the mind is brought up to a highly euphoric (my word) state where you are seemingly in touch with your spiritual essence.  Here, you find the causes and solutions for your problem.

Jerry has been working on a book about Ultraheight and said he has had a possible breakthrough in it that, if duplicatable, could be important to the future of hypnosis.

Who knows, but that's the positive and forward thinking nature of Gerald (Jerry) Kein.

Why the title of this blog? I will also post it on my other blog, if I can figure out how.

Quit Smoking in One Session

I have a program for quitting smoking that is done in only one session.  A client had quit and wanted to add the hypnosis to help insure his success.  I said great!  Before his appointment I brushed up on the procedure because I hadn't been through it in a while.
One thing has to be determined before you even start, and that is what is the reason someone is quitting?  If it's because a doctor or wife wants you to, or you're worried about health matters, have developed a cough etc. You're wasting your time and money.  When you can honestly say to "cigarettes", that you are fed up with them, don't want them in your life anymore, find them disgusting and repulsive and don't like the control they have over you, then you're ready to quit and will have success with hypnosis.

Your motivation must be strong.

My own motivation was 1. I didn't want to be addicted to anything, and 2. I didn't want to pay the $$.  This was when I was young and hadn't really had the habit for long.

The session went very well.  If this person is successful in quitting partly or wholly because of our session, then my whole study of hypnosis will be worth it.  This was my son.

The fact is though, he has to quit, I can't do it for him.  That's the way it is for every change.  If you think you're going to go to the hypnotist and he/she will cause you to lose weight or lose your fear of heights or have more confidence in speaking etc.  It won't happen unless you're strongly motivated, believe it will happen and will accept the suggestions.  Then it will happen very easily, almost miraculously.

It's up to you.  Don't you wish you could just take a pill or a shot?  Remember the side effects.

Everything you want, need or dream of is within you.  Remember the great hypnotist Oz gave the Tin man a heart, the Lion courage and the Scarecrow a brain.
